This by far has to be one of the most captivating remarkable stories I have come across yet.
The Battle of the Bulge was a huge push by Germans that occurred in the winter during snowy conditions with very little visibility or scouting from both sides. The forward German forces had no idea what they were charging towards and the Allies had little idea how many Germans they would be facing. Almost every engagement was a massacre one way or the other. Either Germans rolled over the Allies that they heavily outnumbered, or (like this story) dozens of Germans would unknowingly line up right in the open in an MG nest's fire arc.
Survivors on either side that recall the first day are usually remembering a very dark and harrowing event.
