The Beaches at Puys - Blue Beach, Dieppe FR

Aug 13  - Aug 26, 2022

August 19th, 2022 marks 80 years since the Dieppe Raid. It was a terrible sacrifice made by the Canadians who stormed the beaches of the seaside port town of France in the early hours.

This is a custom tour created for a special group of Canadians who have a connection to Dieppe and wish to participate in commemorative ceremonies. Guided by our experienced guides & knowledgeable team, with our head organizer, Jayne Poolton, this program follows in our forefathers’ footsteps - tracing their story back to the beaches at Dieppe, and then some.

Depart from Toronto's Lester B Pearson Airport on your overnight flight to London Heathrow. [Dinner and breakfast will be served onboard]

Day 1 - Saturday, August 13th
Upon arrival at London Heathrow International Airport, you will meet your battlefield guide at the Arrivals Meeting Point, before our drive to Milton Keynes. After dropping off your bags, enjoy a short walk with our guide to get oriented with the town. Take the rest of the afternoon to rest, or walk through Midsummer Place, past 2.2 million trees that line the high street. See the Milton Keynes Rose, where hundreds gather each year on Armistice Day. Explore the vast and impressive open-air circle made up of 106 pillars, arranged in the mathematical beauty of a flower. Tonight, we gather for a welcome reception and dinner. [Overnight - Milton Keynes 4* (B, D)]

Day 2 - Sunday, August 14th
After breakfast this morning, we take the drive to Bletchley Park, the centre of British code-breaking activity during World War II. Discover the determination and brilliance behind the codebreakers who worked here, and how they impacted not only the war effort but the world on a revolutionary scale. Enjoy the rest of the evening to dine on your own, to explore Milton Keynes, or take the train into London for the evening! [Overnight - Milton Keynes 4* (B)]

Day 3 - Monday, August 15th
Today, we say our farewells to Milton Keynes before travelling down to Aldershot for a special private visit to the Aldershot Military Museum, housed in Victorian barrack blocks. The museum tells the civilian and military history of Aldershot, Farnborough and Cove. We will also be greeted by the CWGC at the Canadian Military Cemetery at Brookwood before travelling on to Portsmouth.  Upon our arrival, we will get the chance to explore the new D-Day Museum, where we will pay special attention to the preparations Portsmouth was responsible for in launching the multiple amphibious attacks against Germany. Tonight, we check into our hotel for our dinner and overnight. [Overnight – Portsmouth 3* (B, D)]

Day 4 - Tuesday, August 16th
In the early afternoon, we transfer to Newhaven for our Channel Crossing to Dieppe (5:30PM Crossing - DFDS Ferries). We will take the same routing our forefathers took in August 1942, and will get the chance to see the cliffs of Dieppe at last light. Enjoy dinner on board. Upon our arrival in Dieppe, we will disembark and transfer to our hotel for our overnight.  [Overnight - Dieppe 3* (B)]

Day 5 - Wednesday August 17th
This morning, we will begin our tour of the Red & White Beaches before having a private tour with the director of the Memorial Museum of Dieppe. Day 6 - Thursday August 18th
We head out early this morning to pay our respects at the Dieppe Canadian Cemetery, before continuing on to see the Green Beach at Pourville. We will also explore Blue Beach in Puys for a good look at the German gun emplacements situated along the cliff tops. These guns would be responsible for the many terrible casualties that the Canadians encountered upon landing here. We will keep the rest of this day open and flexible as we anticipate the announcements for the arranged ceremonies of which your participation may be required. Events TBA [Overnight - Dieppe 3* (B, D)]
